Commissions

Art that is meaningful to you makes your space feel unique and warm. It serves as an invitation to slow down and reflect.

Commissioned paintings are so special because they usually originate when you – the collector – have a certain wish or idea in mind for the piece. Having a painting in your home that symbolizes a specific intention is such a powerful and beautiful reminder of love to yourself every day.

The commission process is collaborative. We will work together to create the perfect piece for you!

  • Phase I

To start things off we will plan a coffee date (online or in person) to discuss your wishes for the painting.

    Think:
What do you want the piece to symbolize?
What colors go with that? And your interior?
What size painting do you want?
What pieces of mine speak to you? (This gives me an idea of what you like)
Do you want your piece to be painted on canvas or other material?

  • Phase II

If you decide to proceed (yay!) I will put together a contract for us both to sign. There is a 50% non-refundable deposit for commissions, with the rest due upon completion or paid in terms. (I have never had anyone be unhappy with their painting, but if that were to happen - your 50% deposit can be applied to any original art on my website.)
Upon receipt of the signed contract and deposit I will create three studies based on what we discussed during our coffee date. In these studies I will explore your wish for the painting, color combinations and composition. You will receive pictures of these studies and we will discuss what speaks to you most. Once you approve, I will start on your commissioned painting.

  • Phase III

Your painting will take somewhere between 3-4 months to be completed. When I feel your painting is 90% finished I will send you some pictures and videos. At this stage you can offer feedback and tell me if the painting needs some adjustments to better match what you want the painting to symbolize. This can range from “I’d like more green" to “I love everything except for that shape which reminds me of a horse” – it’s all valid.

I will work on the requested adjustments and present it to you for your final approval. After this I will varnish and sign the painting, and then it's ready to come to you!

If you live in the Netherlands you can come to my studio to pick up the painting in person. This is always such a special occasion! We’ll have some tea and a lovely snack and chat about the painting, after which you can take it home.
If you do not live in the Netherlands, or you simply want your painting to be shipped to you: I ship via PostNL.

Large paintings have to be shipped via an art shipping service and this can impact the cost and amount of time until the piece arrives at your home or business.

I will let you know the shipping fees before drawing up your contract. It is also possible to create larger works on unstretched canvas and ship them rolled in a tube to your local framer, who can them stretch them onto bars for you to hang or frame as you like.

What collectors say about their custom painting:

When I recovered from my eating disorder a few years back, I wanted to have something to remind me of what I overcame and how strong I had become. So when I had a bad day, I could look at it and feel empowered.

While scrolling on instagram I came across Bethany and immediately was mesmerised by her work. She felt authentic and kind which also came across when we zoomed for our first meeting. She asked me a lot about my journey, took notes and really understood what I wanted and was looking for.

She wrote a few of my quotes of empowerment from our conversation on the canvas before painting over it. I loved this, because it gave the work just a little extra magic just for me.

When the work was done, I could not have beeen happier. I absolutely adore it. I can’t thank Bethany enough for capturing my feelings in a painting. She understood me so well. So thank you for your talent, kindness and your amazing work.

Every time I look at the artwork above my couch I am filled with joy. Proud and happy!

The commission process is something we went through together
. We discussed every step: the colors, the size, the shapes in the painting and the story behind it.

That’s why this work of art feels like a reflection of me. It is literally representative of my journey of acceptance, rooted in the quotes beneath the layers of paint and the silhouette on the canvas.

My living room walls used to be very white and empty, so I wanted a beautiful painting that felt like me. On Instagram I saw that Bethany was doing cool things with art, so I thought: “That’s the perfect solution!

I am someone who likes to maintain a bit of control, so I discussed my wishes for the piece with Bethany and she incorporated those into the painting really well. While she was creating, she sent me regular updates about the colors she was using and about the creative process. It was nice that we kept in touch to discuss these things. And as she created the painting, it kept getting more beautiful.

I had complete faith in Bethany when I commissioned the painting, but the process is still exciting and quite suspenseful. Thankfully, the suspense was gone in an instant when I saw the piece for the first time. I immediately loved the painting, it’s exactly what I wanted! And now it lives on my wall in all its glory and brings me joy every day.

Having art on your walls that is special and meaningful to you, is such a powerful reminder that you are worth investing in and that you deserve to cultivate more joy and pleasure in your life.

Please let me know if you have any questions about the commission process. I'd love to hear from you!
